Resumo: Chronic pain is a complex syndrome, which requires attention in diagnosis and treatment, and for physicians in primary health care, rheumatic diseases are a major challenge. The study aimed to evaluate the association between oxidative stress (OS) markers and clinical and biochemical variables of patients with chronic pain. This is a cross-sectional, quantitative, and analytical research. The sample of this research consisted of primary care patients (PCP) from a municipality of Rio Grande do Sul, whose data were collected in August 2021 and compared with a positive control group (PC), patients diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and a negative control group (NC), people without diseases and without medication use.  Of the 17 patients who participated in the study, 82.4% were diagnosed with AR and 17.6% with fibromyalgia. In the Analysis of OS, higher catalase values were verified in the PPA group than in the other ones, and this increase was statistically significant when compared to the control. HS was lower in PAP and substances reactive to thiobarbituric acid were higher in PAP, with significant difference when compared to PC and NC. In this study, it was evidenced that chronic pain predominantly affected the female gender and with low schooling and higher values of the markers suggest an increase in oxidative stress in PAP, when compared with the results obtained in the PC and NC groups. This may be related to pharmacological treatment prescribed to primary care patients who do not follow the protocols.
