Education and ideology of new developmentalism: heteronomy in the education field

Resumo: This article discusses the main conceptions of development in Brazil in three specific historical moments: the mid-20th century developmentalism, the new developmentalism in the beginning of the 21st century and, recently, the Sustainable Development. We aim to analyze their connections to the changing demands for education. The bibliographical research and document analysis developed were based on dialectical historical materialism. We claim that the new developmentalism and the sustainable development do not constitute alternatives to neoliberalism, but, rather, that they are ideologies adopted for extreme poverty relief while, on the other side, feed rentier capitalism. The analyses evidence the contributions of the Marxist Theory of Dependence to thinking critically about the relation between contemporary education and development.

La investigación bibliográfica y documental realizada se basó en el materialismo histórico-dialéctico. Se argumenta que el neodesarrollismo y el desarrollo sostenible no son alternativas al neoliberalismo, sino ideologías que se utilizan para aliviar la pobreza extrema mientras alimentan el capitalismo rentista. Los análisis muestran los aportes de la teoría marxista de la dependencia para reflexionar críticamente sobre la relación entre educación y desarrollo en la contemporaneidad.O objetivo deste artigo é discutir as concepções de desenvolvimento predominantes no Brasil em três momentos históricos: o desenvolvimentismo de meados do século XX, o neodesenvolvimentismo no início do século XXI e, mais recentemente, o Desenvolvimento Sustentável. Argumenta-se que o neodesenvolvimentismo e o desenvolvimento sustentável não constituem alternativas ao neoliberalismo, mas, ao contrário, são ideologias usadas para alívio da pobreza extrema enquanto alimentam o capitalismo rentista.
