Resumo: The study carried out in this work aims to discuss the impacts that the monetary stabilization guaranteed with the implementation of the Plano Real had on the income distribution in Brazil in the long term, between the years 1994 to 2010. The work covers a brief retrospective about the problems faced by the Brazilian population in a period of high inflation rates and describes the transition to the new currency during the three implementation phases of the Plano Real. Thereafter, this study presents the income distribution in Brazil before and after Real, using the Gini Coefficient and the distribution of resources coefficient. Finally, we analyze the main facts of the economic policies that had an impact on the income distribution and inflation control in this period. Consequently, these facts contributed to a significant improvement in the Gini Coefficient recently

O trabalho retrata uma breve retrospectiva a respeito dos problemas enfrentados pela população brasileira no período de altos índices inflacionários e, procura-se relatar o processo de mudança para a nova moeda, contemplando as três fases de implantação do Plano. Subsequentemente, são apresentadas como estava a distribuição de renda no Brasil antes e depois do Real, utilizando-se do Coeficiente de Gini e da distribuição de recursos.
