A escolha profissional docente: representações sociais do professor na sociedade e implicações para a escolha pelo curso de Pedagogia

Resumo: | The professional choice is a fundamental process in the life of every citizen interested in entering the job market, an important step that aims to encompass a series of factors related to decisions driven by family and financial notions, media influences, and self-affirmation of their social values. When choosing the Pedagogy course, the student reveals some intention to become a teacher. His decision, which may seem to be something completely subjective, private, individual, is also driven by social representations about the figure of the teacher, produced by historical and social processes. This social imaginary that moves the potential teacher brings with it a sequence of structuring processes that, in the last decades, has been marked by a dichotomy between the idealized valorization of the hero figure at the service of the country and the reality experienced by teachers, marked by loss of prestige, low salaries, and the discrediting of national education, among other factors. Considering the identity construction as a subjective process, at the same time as a social one, this study sought to understand, by means of a qualitative research, how the professional teacher is socially constituted, its representations and what elements currently motivate students to seek the Pedagogy course. The study was accomplished by means of a questionnaire applied to students of the Pedagogy course of a public university in the State of São Paulo. Its conclusions point that the students opt for the course of Pedagogy in function of aspects linked to good previous experiences with professionals in Basic Education, their old teachers and families, and for the desire to transform the current educational scenery. These students, however, identify aspects linked to the professional precariousness by teachers and the impasses and challenges that are present to the teaching profession. |

Ao escolher o curso de Pedagogia, o estudante revela alguma intenção de se tornar professor. Sua decisão, que pode parecer algo completamente subjetivo, privado, individual é movida também pelas representações sociais acerca da figura do professor, produzidas por processos históricos e sociais. Este imaginário social que move o potencial professor traz consigo uma sequência de processos estruturantes que, nas últimas décadas é marcado por uma dicotomia, entre valorização docente idealizada da figura do herói a serviço do país, e a realidade vivida pelos professores, marcada por perda de prestígio, baixa remuneração salarial, descrédito da educação nacional, entre outros fatores. Considerando a construção da identidade como sendo um processo subjetivo, ao mesmo tempo que social, este estudo buscou entender por meio de uma pesquisa qualitativa, como se constitui o ser profissional professor socialmente, suas representações e que elementos motivam atualmente os estudantes a procurarem o curso de Pedagogia. O estudo foi realizado por meio de questionário aplicado junto a estudantes do curso de Pedagogia de uma universidade pública do Estado de São Paulo. Suas conclusões apontam que os estudantes optam pelo curso de Pedagogia em função de aspectos ligados a boas experiências prévias com profissionais na Educação Básica, seus antigos professores e familiares, e pelo desejo de transformar o cenário educacional atual.
