Resumo: | Pollution by heavy metals is an environmental problem that demands attention due to the risks it poses to human health and environmental quality. Heavy metals have the ability to accumulate in organisms. In humans, exposure to heavy metals is capable of generating various health problems such as cancer, neurological diseases and others. The most responsible for the contamination of the environment, for the emission of heavy metals, are the industries. When industrial liquid effluents are contaminated with heavy metals and are released, without proper treatment, into water bodies, they can pollute their waters. However, industries must treat their effluents to release them into the public sewage collection and transport network, or into water bodies, respecting the quality standards defined by law. The industrial districts of Bauru-SP are located in regions connected to the public sewage collection and transport network. Currently, the collected sewage is released in natura into the Bauru River, but there is a sewage treatment plant generated in the municipality that is not treated. As the municipality has a large number of industries with the potential to generate effluents with heavy metals, it is important to monitor and have social control if the sewage being released into the public network has the presence of these substances, after all they can also harm the future treatment of sewage. sewage. Os metais pesados têm a capacidade de se acumular nos organismos. Nos seres humanos, a exposição aos metais pesados, é capaz de gerar diversos problemas de saúde como o câncer, doenças neurológicas e entre outros. Os maiores responsáveis pela contaminação do meio ambiente, pela emissão de metais pesados, são as indústrias. Quando os efluentes líquidos industriais estão contaminados com metais pesados e são lançados, sem tratamento adequado, nos corpos hídricos podem poluir suas águas. Entretanto, as indústrias devem tratar seus efluentes para lança-los na rede pública de coleta e transporte de esgoto, ou nos corpos hídricos, respeitando os padrões de qualidade definidos em lei. Os distritos industriais de Bauru- SP estão localizados em regiões interligadas na rede pública de coleta e transporte de esgotos. Atualmente, o esgoto coletado é lançado in natura no Rio Bauru, mas existe uma estação de tratamento de esgotos gerado no município que não é tratado. Como o município apresenta uma grande quantidade de indústrias com potencial de gerar efluentes com metais pesados, é importante monitorar e ter um controle social se o esgoto que está sendo lançado na rede pública tem presença destas substâncias, afinal elas também podem prejudicar o futuro tratamento de esgoto. Este trabalho localizou dos distritos industriais do município e os metais pesados que podem estar sendo gerados no município.
