Epidemiological studies in Brazil show that with advancing age, the need for prosthetic rehabilitation increases, damaging the masticatory efficiency, leading to reduction in the intake of nutrients that affect the overall health of the elderly. Thus, the importance of access to quality dental prostheses and periodic monitoring by DDS to this group of individuals is essential. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between nutritional deficiency in elderly people and use / fitting dentures. We conducted a cross-sectional population-based elderly aged over 60 years who attended the elderly groups in the municipality of Promissão, SP. The evaluation was performed by examining the use and need for dentures as well as the adaptation of these, using the methodology proposed by WHO and the Ministry of Health for the national epidemiological surveys. The nutritional status assessment was performed by means of the questionnaire validated MNA (Mini Nutritional Assessment) and body mass index (BMI). Among the total respondents, 21.3% reported loss of appetite, weight lost 32.9%, 21.3% reported risk of malnutrition and 2.1% were malnourished. More than 77.8% made their self-assessment and reported that they had no nutritional problems. It was concluded that some individuals showed dissatisfaction with their dentures, and a small portion reported risk malnutrition, loss of appetite and mild weight loss between 1 and 3 kg. . Therefore, it is important to consider a rehabilitation treatment quality, with a correct prognosis, always aware of oral abnormalities resulting from aging, so that the patient fits mastication, phonetics, aesthetics and quality of life
