Eficácia de um programa odontológico educativo aplicado na zona rural de Araraquara (SP)

Resumo: The objective of the educative programs is to improve buccal health. The more precocious they are carried through, the greater their benefits are. The family involvement is essential to be successful, since children, at very early age, are totally dependent on familiar habits. The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge level of mothers of children from 0 to 4 years old, inhabitants of the rural area in Araraquara city (SP), on prevention measures for the improvement of their children’s buccal health after an educative program. After seven years of program, an assessment through a questionnaire was made with 38 mothers who were taking part in this program. They answered, individually, questions about buccal hygiene. It was observed that 80% of the mothers carried through the buccal hygiene of their children, while 11% only supervised. The cloth diaper or gauze humidified in water was the most used means (59%), once the time of hygienic beginning occurred in 58% of the cases before the eruption of the first deciduous tooth. The toothbrush was cited by 20% of the mothers, which agrees with the 21% of the interviewed mothers who only initiated the brushing after the deciduous tooth eruption. Thus the conclusion is that educative odontological programs present satisfactory results when applied in long-term and that the professional must play the educator role, standing out to the parents the importance of prevention.

Cuanto más prontamente se realizan los exámenes, más grandes son los beneficios. El envolvimiento de la familia es esencial, pues que los niños dependen de los hábitos familiares. A través de la realización de un programa de extensión universitaria, el trabajo avaluó el conocimiento de las madres de niños de cero a cuatro años, habitantes de la zona rural de la ciudad de Araraquara (SP), sobre medidas preventivas para la promoción de la salud bucal de sus hijos. En el transcurrir de siete años de aplicación del programa, se envolvieran 38 madres. Después de realizado un cuestionario sobre higiene bucal, se observó que 80% de las madres enseñaban esta practica a sus hijos, mientras 11% solamente la supervisaban. Los pañales o las gasas medicinales eran los medios de higiene bucal que más se utilizaron (59%), una vez que, en 58% de los casos, el inicio del habito se pasó antes de la erupción del primero dente deciduo. El cepillo de dientes se practicaba por 20% de las madres, lo que está de acuerdo con lo que dijeron 21% de las entrevistadas que iniciaron el cepillado en los hijos después de la erupción de los dientes. Se concluye que programas educativos presentan resultados satisfactorios cuando aplicados durante largo plazo y que el profesional debe desempeñar el papel de educador, llamando la atención de los padres y madres para la necesidad de la prevención.Os programas odontológicos educativos buscam a promoção de saúde bucal e quanto mais precocemente forem realizados, maiores serão seus benefícios. O envolvimento da família é essencial, já que crianças são dependentes de hábitos familiares. Por meio da realização de programa de extensão universitário, este trabalho avaliou o conhecimento das mães de crianças de 0 a 4 anos de idade, moradoras na zona rural de Araraquara (SP), sobre medidas preventivas para promoção de saúde bucal de seus filhos. Transcorridos sete anos da aplicação do programa, foram abordadas 38 mães, participantes do projeto no momento da realização do estudo. Após a realização de um questionário sobre higiene bucal foi observado que 80% das mães realizavam a higiene bucal de seus filhos, enquanto 11% apenas supervisionavam. A fralda ou gaze umedecida foi o meio de higiene bucal mais utilizado (59%), uma vez que o inicio deste hábito ocorreu em 58% dos casos antes da erupção do primeiro dente decíduo. A escova dental foi utilizada por 20% das mães, o que vem ao encontro dos 21% das entrevistadas que iniciaram a escovação de seus filhos após a erupção dos dentes.
