This work seeks to make a general approach on advanced oxidative processes (POA's) most used in the treatment of effluents, focusing on the methods used in textile industry effluents and dye degradation. The methodology used in the elaboration of the work was through research of theoretical reference, seeking grounding on the subject. The main themes in the work of a bibliographical review on the textile industry and the characteristics of the effluents generated by such, dyes especially the types used in the production of fabrics and the POA's, considering the fundamentals of these processes, as well as the advantages, disadvantages and applications of these in several hypotheses. This work have been developed with the objective of presenting options, based on the obtained results, for the treatment of recalcitrant residues, mainly dyes, present in the effluent of the textile production sector. It was possible to infer from the research that the POA's are efficient in the treatment of effluents, mainly in their discoloration, which also indicates the efficiency in the degradation of dyes. However, several works have as their main problem the high cost of applying POA's on larger scales, pointing out the need to develop more research in this area.
