In this work one approaches the theme Mobility Research within urban areas based on the existing knowledge and actions in Brazil concerning Origin-Destination Research. One intends to present the concept of Mobility Research, as well demonstrates its importance, its funcitons and how to use it, focusing on the transportation planning ideals. In other words, one whishes to present another toll that enable the planning of transports based on the detailed study of transport demand in medium and long terms. One also discusses the vocation of each mean of transport within the urban mobility context, its relation with the Origin-Destination Research currently performed by the DNIT, its procedures, the diagnostic formulationand the correct interpretation of its results. Finally one demonstrates the importance of the relationship of this research between other studies, which also concerns the theme
