Resumo: The adaptation of wild animals to life in captivity is an important component of species conservation. However, environments of animals in captivity contribute to the development of unusual behaviors for the species, since they provide very different conditions from those observed in the wild. To reduce the negative impact of life in captivity, several zoos have developed techniques that aim to provide well-being to captive species, such as environmental enrichment techniques. Environmental enrichment has been the subject of studies in its association with improvement in animal welfare indicators. In this study we investigated the effect of a food enrichment routine on the behavioral frequency of a group of Capuchin Monkeys (Sapajus spp) formed by twelve members, eight females and four males located in one of the enclosures of the Center for Medicine and Research in Wild Animals (Cempas). For that, two hours of daily observations were carried out over twelve days, totaling twenty-four hours for each stage. There was the insertion of an environmental enrichment routine composed of 4 different examples of food enrichment. For data analysis, one-way ANOVA for repeated measures was used, in the case of parametric or homoscedastic data, and Kruskal Wallis, in the case of non-parametric and heteroscedastic data, and Tukey's post tests and Dunn's Multiple Comparison, respectively, were considered significant. p values <0.05. The results showed that the application of Environmental Enrichment influences the frequency of the analyzed behavioral categories, highlighting the increase in eating behavior and decrease in stereotyped behavior during the Enrichment Period.
