Nowadays, the processes of machining have been largely used to academic and industrial purposes, in which the productivity has became a continuous pursuit. Driven by the evolution and dissemination of computers, the creation of specialized softwares in accomplishment of various types of tasks had in the last years a big increase. In the caso of the manufacturing processes of parts using machining, in the last decades there has been a big influence in the evolution of computational techniques, with the appearance of machines controlled by CNC (Computer Numerical Control) and CAD and CAM softwares (Computer-Aided Design / Computer-Aided Manufacturing). This work presents a overview about the important aspects of the CNC machining, and also a project of a programming support system applied to a turning machine controlled by CNC, more specifically the model ROMI GL-240M available at the Engineering College of Guaratinguetá. This tool helps the creation of programs used to obtain products defined by a CAD file, simplifying and quicken the CNC programming stage
