Recursos para a higiene buco-dental em pacientes portadores de necessidades especiais totalmente dependentes

Patients with special needs, are those individuals who deviate physically, intellectually, socially and emotionally from what is considered normal range, may be permanent or temporary, requiring special care to develop their daily activities. Most of them do not receive regular dental assistance, according to limited mobility and the total dependence of their caregivers.This paper aims to present some auxiliary resources that can be used daily to facilitate the achievement of bucco dental hygiene of these individuals, educating and motivating their parents to make them able to carry out this important job, providing improvements in their oral health and quality of life. Besides the direct guidance and supervision of brushing teeth, are also the changes made to the instruments used in cleaning to facilitate their handling by the physically and mentally.These adjustments can be: use of electric toothbrush, dedeiras, teething ring and opener of the mouth, to facilitate the maintenance of the mouth opening. The combination of techniques for motivation, adapting the same for each patient, and the creation of new models of motivation, using local resources are of great value to establish good hygiene habits.Education and motivation are the best resources to achieve the establishment of habits and practices for the prevention of oral diseases. However, it is stressed that, whatever the technical education and motivation, it should be easy to understand and targeted to the audience, involving the interests of it and the local resources
