Neuropatia óptica traumática: relato de caso com revisão sistemática da literatura

Due to the position of orbit in the middle third of the face it is susceptible to traumatic situations. Rapid and accurate diagnosis of orbital trauma is essential for a successful recovery from the traumatic consequences. Complications include traumatic optic neuropathy (NOT), which is characterized by optic nerve dysfunction as a secondary consequence of trauma. The purpose of this study was to analyze, through literature, the type of orbital fracture that generates more NOT and what is the best treatment for NOT. The articles were selected from the Pubmed, Scopus and Cochrane database database with the descriptor Optic nerve insertion and orbital fracture. We found 609 articles of which 410 were eliminated because they were duplicated, by through the exclusion and inclusion criteria, 23 articles were selected. Of 2,064 patients 192 presented NO where the treatments varied between therapeutic and surgical. With the conduction of the work it is concluded that traumatic optic neuropathy is an infrequent alteration and once the diagnosis of NOT is established the prognosis is affected by the beginning of the treatment. The presence of isolated NOT should be treated with medication, however if there is any other clinical sign indicates the surgical treatment
