Resumo: The development of the World Wide Web, the supply and use of information and communication technologies culminate in the rapid growth of production and the availability of data and information, accessible by different users and devices. In this context, it is evident the difficulty in the representation, identification, organization, search, retrieval, access and use of the information, including its different levels of structuring. In this way, the present study aims to present the contributions of the attribute metadata for the information findability in digital information environments. For the accomplishment of the exploratory study, a qualitative bibliographical research was carried out using national and international databases. It is possible to affirm that the metadata are fundamental in the process of information findability since they establish the connection between the informational individuals and the information that it needs, as well as structure human readable data and computational agents, making them interoperable and connectable to other data.
