Resumo: The undergraduate student population present typical patterns and risk factors of alcohol use related to risky drinking, which differ from the population in general. Considering the number of existing users; its impact on individuals, institutions and society; adverse consequences and also being a relevant global concern issue, this study proposed evaluate undergraduate student alcohol consumption from individuals enrolled in UNESP campuses courses – Araraquara – SP. This is a cross-sectional study. The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) was used to evaluate alcohol consumption. Dada as age, gender, civil status, education, alcohol consumption in family environment, religion and other features were surveyed for sample characterization, and also, drinking aspects as kind of places they usually drink with whom. The descriptive analysis of variables was carried out, and the association between “at-risk drinking” and variables of interest, have been studied through Odds Ratio (OR) considering a 5,00% significance level. Of all surveyed students, 80,94% were alcoholic drinkers, of which 62,81% were female. According to test score, 19,06% from the sample was rated as abstemious, a lower value comparing to previous nationwide studies, showing to be a problem since it is considered a protective factor, and also reveals indirectly the hazardous drinking. The risk drinking pattern was found to be upper (37,03%) than either representative nationwide undergraduate sample or Brazilian population, leading to believe that the hazardous drinking is becoming higher in this population. The AUDIT scores showed that 70,69% of women presented low-risk drinking, unlike 51,14% of men who were classified as at-risk drinking. The association between risky drinking and gender in this population was strong. Besides, male undergraduate students drink alcohol more dangerously than female undergraduate students. It was observed a significant ...
