Resumo: The current study regards the dispute for power and the routine political practices in Mato Grosso State between the years of 1889 and 1917. It tries, more specifically, to help better understanding the constitutive aspects of the political culture and the ways political performances were presented in the aforementioned State since the time monarchy was replaced by the federative regime. The period was highlighted by great instability and political disputes involving power control. It led to consecutive interruptions on the State President's mandates and to armed confrontations organized by party factions that aimed to gain the political control of Mato Grosso State by any means and regardless the reactions from those who saw themselves as put aside of the power. Thus, the analysis designed in the current study aims to favor the understanding of specificities inherent to this instability scenario and, further on, to the comprehension of the routine process regarding power relationships in Mato Grosso within the First Republic period

Esto, más específicamente, para permitir la comprensión de los aspectos constitutivos de la cultura política y las formas de manifestación de la formulación de políticas en ese Estado por el paso del régimen de la monarquía a la federal, en un período marcado por una gran inestabilidad, en que las disputas políticas, que involucran el control de mando, llevaron a sucesivas interrupciones de los mandatos de Presidentes de Estados, los enfrentamientos armados, organizados por las facciones partidistas que querían tomar para sí el control político del Estado de Mato Grosso a cualquier precio, y la reacción de los que creían a sí mismos apartados del poder. Por lo tanto, el análisis esbozado aquí busca propiciar el entendimiento de las especificidades inherentes a este escenario de inestabilidad y, posteriormente, la comprensión de la rutinización de las relaciones de poder en Mato Grosso durante parte del periodo que comprende la Primera RepúblicaO presente estudo diz respeito às disputas de poder e à rotinização das práticas políticas em Mato Grosso, entre os anos de 1889 a 1917. Trata, mais especificamente, de possibilitar o entendimento dos aspectos constitutivos da cultura política e das formas de manifestação do fazer político no referido Estado a partir da passagem do regime monárquico para o republicano, em um período marcado por grande instabilidade, no qual as disputas envolvendo o controle do mando, levaram à sucessivas interrupções dos mandatos de Presidentes de Estados, aos enfrentamentos armados, organizados por facções partidárias que pretendiam tomar para si o controle do Estado de Mato Grosso a qualquer custo, e à reação daqueles que se julgavam alijados do poder.
