The care relation between mother and child is one of essencial factors for infant development. In this relation is commom the acquisiscion and/or stimulus of some habits that can be guide of child oral health. Normal oral habits like breast feeding, normal action of lips, mastication, phonation and deglutition serve like stimulus for normal growing of jaw. Although others like thumb suction, pacifier suction, tongue projection, lip suction/bite, uncommon deglutition, posture (bad posture during sleep and night-watch), nail biting, objects suction can be potentially harmful to dento-facial development. The damage caused at stomatognathic system by these customs depends on intensity, frequency and length of them. In serious cases can occur deviation on development, abnormalities, confused bone growing, absence of space and bad dental position, muscular unbalances and deficiency, dysfunctions, etc. There are few longitudinal studies on mather-child relation to analyze the period and circumstances which oral habits are obtained by children. The aim of this study was to accompany mothers and babies and to verify instalation of habits of digital and pacifier suction and relate them with type of feeding. Pregants registrated on SIS/Prenatal from Birigui and Piacatu Cities - São Paulo State participated of research. Mothers were interviewed during pregnancy and their children were accompanied until they were 1 year-old. The analysis were made monthly since the birth until six months-old.
