Questioned the performance of architecture and urbanism in urban space, it is worrying that the incessant search for the quali cation of the places ends up expelling or excluding old users, who used them for other purposes that are no longer possible after the intervention. Many activities that happen in the city are not welcome by society in general, and both they and the spaces where they are practiced end up being categorized as marginal. This is the case of most of the low-lying viaducts in brazilian cities that are degraded and disquali ed, becoming inviting spaces for activities categorized as marginal, among them, the occupation of the homeless. Is it fair to maintain this prede  nition of marginalization? At a time when both architecture and urbanism (explicit in public policy) tend to increasingly qualify city spaces for users of high socioeconomic classes, would be possible to qualify the basement of the viaduct for the class of homeless who already stays there? Thereunto we must understand the street population as a class that has needs and wants differents of the standards, but at any moment can lose its quality of citizen and inhabitant of urban space. In this way, understanding the different means of occupation and action of the homeless is crucial for the development of the project, as well as the understanding of urban (public) space, because with the attributions of architect and urbanist, the way to reach people and improving their conditions (or worsening) is by changing the spaces that are part of their lives
