Resumo: Gravitational waves are one of the most important results predicted by General Relativity. As their name suggests, they are ripples - or perturbations - in the geometry of spacetime. However, these disturbances are small, being intense only in regions with high density of matter and energy, such as regions close to black holes, for example. These waves stayed for a long time in theoretical discussions in the process of theory maturation. From the 1970s onwards, with a solid theory for gravitational waves and after the indirect detection of the Hulse-Taylor binary, investment began to be made in building an experiment to detect these small oscillations. Until in 2016, the discovery made by LIGO detectors was announced, which not only confirmed the existence of gravitational waves but also presented the first direct measurement of the existence of black holes. In this work, gravitational waves in the post-Newtonian limit of General Relativity will be addressed. Post Newtonian theory deals with the expansion of General Relativity’s equations of motion using velocity as the expansion parameter, and introduces relativistic corrections to Newtonian results. In addition to the post-Newtonian formalism, will be studied the construction of the equations of motion starting from the Einstein field equation and, finally, the waveforms for compact binaries will be built from their polarization tensors.

Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)Cavalcanti, Rogério Teixeira [UNESP]Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)Lucchini, André Felipe Moraes Luiz2022-05-11T13:15:55Z2022-05-11T13:15:55Z2022-03-07info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/bachelorThesisapplication/pdfhttp://hdl.handle.net/11449/234667porinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório Institucional da UNESPinstname:Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP)instacron:UNESP2023-11-12T06:14:10Zoai:repositorio.unesp.br:11449/234667Repositório InstitucionalPUBhttp://repositorio.unesp.br/oai/requestopendoar:29462024-08-05T17:30:38.910298Repositório Institucional da UNESP - Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP)false
