Resumo: The Corumbatai Formation (Permian of Paraná Basin), focused on this study, is the main source of raw material for the manufacture of ceramic tiles at the Ceramic Cluster of Santa Gertrudes, one of the largest producers of ceramic flooring and ceramic tiles of the world and the biggest of the americas. The Almeida and Picarelli mines are sources of clay from the Corumbataí Formation. Singularities were found in the material extracted from the Picarelli mine. Considering this factor, this project has as the main objective to characterize mineralogic and textural features of the rock types that make up the Corumbataí Formation in the Picarelli and Almeida mines and its surroundings through optic microscopy and X-ray diffraction. And as a result presenting the lithologic and mineralogical data obtained through this methods, also stratigraphic columns from the observed portions of the two mines, structural data picturing the dipping of the layers also the orientations of the veins and fractures observed and also a lithological map of the surrounding area and the mineralogical composition of analyzed strata

As minas Almeida e Picarelli de onde são extraídas argilas da Fm. Corumbataí, se encontram próximas. Foram encontradas singularidades no material extraído na mina Picarelli. Tendo em vista este fator o presente trabalho tem como objetivo a caracterização mineralógico textural dos litotipos que compõem a Formação Corumbataí nas minas Picarelli e Almeida e seu entorno, através de microscopia óptica e difração de raios X.
