Many studies have evaluated the behavior of electromyographic activity of masticatory muscles to analyze muscle activity during function and parafunction through comparisons before and after treatments, as well as comparisons between the sides of individuals. This study aimed to compare the electrical activity of muscles Anterior Temporal and Masseter individually, according to the sides of preference and no preference at rest and during chewing, as well as comparing the elevation of the electrical activity of the muscles of mastication to the rest of according sides preferably (LP) and non-preferred (NP) by analyzing the work side and did not work separately. 30 healthy young women were selected to be analyzed for electrical activity of the muscles of mastication. The electromyographic examinations were performed during mandibular rest and unilateral chewing raisins, each patient underwent chewing the side of your preference rather than preference. Surface electrodes on the masseter and temporal muscles on both sides were used. Data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 20.0 (SPSS, Chicago, IL, USA) and used the Student t test with a significance level of 95% (p = 0.05). It was concluded that the electrical activity of the muscles analyzed the sides of preference and no preference during rest and chewing is similar, and that the increase in electrical activity is not different between sides of preference and no preference, however, the temporal muscles and working sides of the masseter respond to the stimulus of the presence of the bolus differently
