Resumo: Currently, several animal species are endangered or are already extinct. One of the main causes is anthropic actions, such as fragmentation and destruction of habitats, due to agricultural expansion, mining, and logging. Some animal species, such as felines, are essential for the maintenance and ecological balance. Within this group, the puma (Puma concolor), is the most widely distributed species in the Western hemisphere, but it is very sensitive to changes in its habitat. This study aimed to analyze cases involving Puma concolor specie in Brazil, through analysis of news related to the specie between 2003 and 2021. Altogether, 486 news were analyzed of which, 164 cases are related to urban invasion, 159, to rural invasion, 147, to run over and 16 cases related to killings. To verify a possible fragmentation interference, a simple linear regression test was performed, showing a contrary result to what was expected. However, it was found that there is an increase in cases over the years, as well as a correlation between the most deforested Brazilian biomes (Atlantic Forest and Cerrado) and places with the most reported cases.

Uma das principais causas são ações antrópicas como fragmentação e destruição de habitats, devido a expansão agropecuária, mineração e exploração de madeira. Alguns grupos de animais, como os felinos, são essenciais para a manutenção e equilíbrio ecológico. Nesse grupo, a onça-parda (Puma concolor) é a espécie mais amplamente distribuída no hemisfério ocidental, porém é muito sensível a alterações em seu habitat. Este trabalho teve como objetivo analisar casos envolvendo a espécie Puma concolor no Brasil, através de análises de notícias relacionadas a espécie entre 2003 e 2021. Ao todo foram analisadas 486 notícias cujo quais, 164 casos estão relacionados a invasão urbana, 159, a invasão rural, 147, a atropelamentos e 16, a mortes intencionais. E para verificar uma possível interferência da fragmentação com os casos envolvendo os indivíduos de onça-parda, foi realizado um teste de regressão linear simples, trazendo um resultado contrário ao esperado.
