Resumo: Samba can be considered a musical genre which gives rise to, or better, the many different types of dance. It is considered as the Brazilian most popular cultural eventandIt originated from African culture. This study aims to determine the origin of samba, both in the musical context and dance context. Regarding the music, the study seeks to characterize its origin and structure. In dance, raises the records of the various ways in which it is practiced, differentiating steps and styles that may or may not suffer cultural, regional and economic partner influences. This study meets the format of a bibliographical and documentary research. For the theoretical study of the structure were used academic papers, magazines specific books on the subject as well as reporting on websites and newspapers. We conclude that the Samba dance as it is practiced in many different ways according to the region or the music, that this has changed according to the times and other musical styles that have emerged

Considerado como uma das principais manifestações culturais populares brasileiras tem sua origem pautada na cultura africana. Este estudo tem como objetivo verificar a origem do samba, tanto no contexto musical quanto no âmbito da dança. Em relação à música o estudo busca caracterizar sua origem e estrutura. Na dança, levanta os registros das diversas maneiras como é praticada, diferenciando passos e estilos que podem ou não sofrer influências culturais, regionais e sócio econômicas. Este estudo atende ao formato de uma pesquisa bibliográfica e documental. Para a estrutura teórica do estudo foram utilizados artigos acadêmicos, livros, revistas específicas sobre o assunto bem como reportagem em sites e jornais.
