A importância clínica do diagnóstico precoce de reabsorções radiculares: relato de caso clínico

The root resorptions are a challenge to the dentistry and it has a great importance on the daily clinic practice. The root resorptions are physiological or pathological and those could be internal and/or external. In the permanent teeth they are all considered pathological. The etiopathogenesis of the root resorption isn't truly understood, but the dental trauma has been considered the main cause and the prevalence of the most susceptible teeth falls into the superior incisors. What is known up to now is that an injury and stimulation are necessary for a resorption to happen. The root resorptions, are usually asymptomatics with fast progression and diagnosed in daily clinic and radiography exams. The purpose of this work was to show the case of a patient who during a routine clinic exam was noticed a color alteration on the tongue cervical region of the tooth 11, that on the first moment a root resorption was suggested but after radiography exams and endodontic treatment a communication with the periodontium was diagnosed, than diagnosing an cervical external resorption. Furthermore, the differences between internal resorption and cervical external resorption were discussed and the necessity of more researches in this area, also the radiography monitoring for a long period in traumatized teeth
