The current scenario of garbage in Brazil is being governed by the National Policy on Solid Waste, in which all municipalities have to present its Solid Waste Plan. Condominiums, as a large generator, have a major role in this scenario, because their generated residues are, in general, heterogeneous, because they originate from domestic activities. The main goal of this paper is to present the results of diagnosis of domestic solid waste residential condominiums in the city of Sorocaba, to establish management strategies. The methodology was based on the characterization of the waste generated by condominiums, including the identification, separation and quantification. The results show the largest generation of recyclable materials in residential condominium of a middle class, pointing to the importance of selective collection in this segment as a way of economically viable cooperatives of recycling in the region. An improvement of solid waste management at condominiums evaluated is needed, both to reduce the amount of recyclable material in the collection of organic waste, and to promote a reduction in the generation, improving the valuation of the rubbish collected by the cooperative and seeking sustainability management of municipal solid waste.
