This undergraduate thesis aimed to verify, through a literature review and case study, the precepts of solidarity economy in a cooperative of recyclable and reusable material collectors in the interior of São Paulo. The literature review sought to present the emergence, evolution and consolidation of the solidarity economy in Brazil, as well as to identify the history and condition of cooperatives/associations of recyclable and reusable material collectors in the country. To that end, a case study was also in order to identify the constitution and management processes of a cooperative. In the end, it was possible to verify the constitution of the cooperative selected in the study, which brought the cooperative members better living conditions as well as its management presented characteristics in Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE), especially the selfmanagement, equity and economic viability.
