In the current Dentistry, aesthetic has become a great challenge to dentists. The consolidation of ceramic metal-free has become a restorative manner that seeks to promote a natural dental aesthetic. However, to achieve the desired aesthetic and an ideal adaptation and longevity of metal-free restorations - laminates, full crowns, inlays and onlays - we must consider clinical factors related to the patient, like the presence of parafunctional activity, amount of remaining tooth structure with knowledge of the physical and mechanical properties of the restorative material besides the principles for the preparation to the prosthetic purposes. The classification of ceramic systems regarding its composition, processing, indication and surface sensitivity are interrelated based on clinical applicability. Therefore, it is the competence of dentist to know such interactions in order to provide a correct indication, through the various clinical situations, searching for longevity to the ceramic restorations in the aesthetic and functional rehabilitation treatments. However, the purpose of this paper is to approach of metal-free system and its technical aspects like preparation, casting, provisional prosthesis and dental cement besides some factors like indications, contraindications, advantages, disadvantages and/or limitations of various metal-free systems, emphasizing its clinical applicability and implicit technical steps in the rehabilitative treatment
