Resumo: The aim of this study was to evaluate the flexural strength of the nanocomposites poli (metyl methacrylate)/silver (PMMA/Ag). For attainment of the nanocomposite, it was used an acrylic resin heat- polymerized (Lucitone 550) and silver colloid nanoparticles (SNC) with average sizes of 5 and 10 nm.Silver nanoparticles were synthetized by of silver nitrate by the sodium citrate.The form and the size of particles were confirmed by transmission and scanning electronic microscopy.The SNC were added to the resin in concentrations of 0% (0 μL), 0.05% (2 μL), 0.5% (20 μL) and 5% (200 μL) according to the weight the of polymer.For each concentration and size of SCN 10 specimens were fabricated.Also, acrylic resin specimens were made adding deionized water in the same concentrations used for SNC.After the laboratorial processing, the specimens were stored in deionized water at 37º C for 50 ± 2h before the mechanical test.The specimens were submitted to the flexural test three points in a universal machine (EMIC, DL 3000), with a constant speed of 5mm/min, until the breaking occurred. This machine registered the strength (MPa) necessary for specimen breaking.The values of flexural strength were compared one way by ANOVA and the post-hoc Tukey test with level of 5%.The nanocomposites PMMA/Ag containing silver nanoparticles with size of 5 nm in all concentrations were statiscally different the control ( with no addition of SCN or water),from tre group where was added colloid concentration was 5% (P < 0,01).All the groups with silver nanoparticles with size of 10 nm statiscally similar.(P > 0,05). Comparing the different sizes in each concentration, it there were no statistical significant difference between both sizes silver nanoparticles and the control (P> 0,05) for concentrations 0.05 and 0.5%. For concentration 5%, the group with nanoparticles of size 5 nm was statiscally different...O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a resistência à flexão de nanocompósitos poli (metil metacrilato) / prata (PMMA / Ag). Para obtenção do nanocompósito, utilizou-se a resina acrílica termopolimerizável Lucitone 550 e solução coloidal de nanopartículas de prata com tamanhos médios de 5 e 10 nm, que foram obtidas por meio da redução dos íons prata do nitrato de prata pelo citrato de sódio. A forma e o tamanho das partículas foram confirmados por microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) e de transmissão (MET). O colóide de nanopartículas de prata foi adicionado à resina em concentrações de 0% (0 μL), 0,05% (2 μL), 0,5% (20 μL) e 5% (200 μL) com base na massa do polímero. Para cada concentração e tamanho foram confeccionados 10 espécimes. Também foram confeccionados espécimes de resina acrílica nos quais foi adicionado água deionizada pura nas mesmas concentrações que as de solução coloidal. Após o processamento laboratorial, os espécimes foram armazenados em água deionizada à 37º C por 50 ± 2h até a realização do ensaio mecânico. Após este período os espécimes foram submetidos ao ensaio de flexão em três pontos em uma máquina de ensaio universal EMIC modelo DL 3000, com uma velocidade constante de 5mm/min, até que ocorresse a fratura. Esse equipamento registrou a resistência máxima (MPa) necessária para que ocorresse a fratura. Os valores de resistência à flexão foram avaliados pela ANOVA de um fator e em seguida foi aplicado o teste de Tukey com nível de significância de 5%. Os grupos onde foram adicionado a solução coloidal de nanopartículas de prata com tamanho de 5 nm diferiram de maneira estatisticamente significante somente do grupo controle (sem adição de nenhuma solução) e do grupo onde a concentração de colóide adicionada foi de 5% (P < 0,01).
