Resumo: Media watchers arise seeking to monitor the performance of the media subjected to commercial exploitation and public communication systems such as broadcasting and government web portals, aiming at indicating shortcomings and opportunities for improvement. As a specialized tool, they can encourage the public to consume media critically and reflectively and foster debates on the subjects. The object of this study is the Plural: Observatory of Communication and Citizenship, public engagement project of the FAAC / UNESP. Its content was analyzed from the perspective of relevant theories of media criticism, suggesting that the project has the potential to contribute to the training of journalists and the dissemination of references to quality journalism production.

Como ferramenta de crítica de mídia especializada, buscam incentivar o público a consumir mídia de maneira crítica e reflexiva e fomentar debates sobre o tema. O objeto de estudo deste trabalho é o Plural: Observatório de Comunicação e Cidadania, projeto de extensão da FAAC/UNESP.
