Resumo: | Citrobacter rodentium is a Gram-negative bacillus, non-mobile of the Enterobacteriaceae family, mice natural pathogen, extracellular, which colonizes the intestinal lumen mucosa causing injury in the apical region of the enterocytes, by attaching and effacing (A / E) adherence, characterized by bacterial adhesion to the intestinal epithelium of the host cell, microvilli deletion, and reorganization of the host actin cytoskeleton to form the pedestal-like structures of epithelial cells beneath the adherent bacteria. C. rodentium is closely related and share several pathogenic mechanisms with Escherichia coli enteropathogenic (EPEC) and enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC), which are two clinically important human gastrointestinal pathogens. The absence of an effective in vivo model to study the pathogenicity of EPEC and EHEC makes C. rodentium an animal model ideal for understanding the molecular basis and the virulence mechanisms of these in vivo infections, also used to model its pathogenesis. The present bibliographical study covers the Citrobacter rodentium pathogenicity and compares these mechanisms with EPEC and EHEC pathogenesis. |

The present bibliographical study covers the Citrobacter rodentium pathogenicity and compares these mechanisms with EPEC and EHEC pathogenesis.
