The experiences in the past with individuals today have 60 and over also contributed to the preservation or deterioration of the environment. The University has a strategic nature in environmental protection because it favors the participation of the population in the search for viable solutions, integrating knowledge and social reality, leading to awareness, commitment and awareness of environmental protection. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the self-perception of a group of elderly in the state of São Paulo in relation to social responsibility, sustainability and the environment. The sample was composed of 20 elderly of the Center for the elderly Social Assistance Reference Center Professor Daria Maria Cardoso Ernesto, Tupi Paulista (SP). The investigated elderly had this profile: age between 62 and 83 years, 99% female, monthly income de1 salary (60%), incomplete primary education (40%) and living with their spouse (40%). They reported believing (100%) to discuss and look after the environment is important, but 15% did not feel responsible for half the current environment and 20% said they did not feel responsible for the future state of the environment. 99% of respondents older reported that information about the environment were acquired by television and 20% reported participation in special course on environmental education. The results point to the importance of the University participation through extension actions for the construction of individual responsibility, social environment and environment.
