Influência da droga quimioterápica 5-fluorouracil sobre a evolução da periodontite experimental induzida: estudo histométrico

The present study evaluated via histometric analysis the effects of chemotherapy 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in the evolution of experimental periodontitis (EP). A total of 48 mice were randomly separated into two groups and subjected to the following treatments: Group 1 (n = 24) - normal animals with induced experimental periodontitis (EP), Group 2 (n = 24) - animals treated systemically with 5-FU with PE induction. The PE was induced by adapting a cotton thread around the left mandibular first molar. In G2 animals the drug 5-FU was administered at the induction of PE and after 48 hours. After 7 days of evolution of PE, the animals of groups G1 and G2, the ligature was removed. The animals, eight in number for each group / time were euthanized at 7, 15 and 30 days after removal of the bandage. Were obtained from serial sections of 4 mm thick in the mesio-distal and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The percentage of bone in the furcation (POF) was evaluated by histometric analysis. The blood collection was performed at the following times: 0, -7 days.The total leukocytes (LT) and neutrophils were evaluated. The data were subjected to statistical analysis (p <0.05) in specialized computer program. It was observed that the animals in group G2 (34.20 ± 19.01, 40.03 ± 13.08) had lower POF compared to animals of G1 (66.20 ± 9.09, 66.23 ± 11, 82) to 7 (p <0.02) and 30 (p <0.01) days, respectively. The animals in groups G2, showed reduction of LT and neutrophils after treatment with 5-FU. Within the present study it can be concluded that 5-FU dosage used in the development of PE deteriorated in rats
