Resumo: This study had the aim to verify the profile of occurrence of abuse against children and adolescents. They were analysed the datas registered in police occurrences at Woman's Defence Police Station of Araçatuba-SP, at the year of 2008, related to aggression, victim-offender relationship; sociodemographic characteristics of aggressors and victims and pursuit of the victims for health services. Among the allegations made, there was a higher prevalence of physical abuse, being the residence, the place of the highest incidence of aggressions. The aggressor, most of the time, was the mother of the child being the purpose not reported in most cases. Thus we can define the profile of violent occurrences against children, contributing to the visualization, understanding and confronting the problem

Foram analisados os dados registrados nas ocorrências policiais da Delegacia de Defesa da Mulher de Araçatuba-SP, no ano de 2008, relativos à agressão; relação vítima-agressor; características sociodemográficas de agressores e vítimas e procura das vítimas por serviço de saúde. Dentre as denúncias feitas, houve uma maior prevalência de maus tratos físicos, sendo a residência o local de maior incidência de agressões. O agressor na maioria das vezes tratava-se da mãe da criança sendo o motivo não relatado na maior parte dos casos.
