Metástase e sobrevida no tratamento quimioterápico de osteossarcoma apendicular em cães: revisão sistemática

The appendicular osteosarcoma is a malignant bone tumor that affects thoracic and pelvic limbs of big and giant breads of dogs; it is characterized by the locally invasive, and highly metastatic capacity. The definitive diagnosis through biopsy allows staging the tumor, and setting the prognosis. The treatment of canine osteosarcoma is still a challenge in veterinary medicine. The surgery handling advocates the complete amputation of the affected member, and the association with chemotherapy demonstrated increases the survival rate of the dogs with this disease. This paper evaluated the efficiency of cisplatin, carboplatin, and doxorubicin chemotherapy in the treatment of appendicular osteosarcoma in dogs through scientific articles on PubMed databases. After screening the papers were analyzed, and it was found that the treatment with carboplatin brought a 479 days of survival rate, that was a better value than the ones with cisplatin and doxorubicin. Dogs treated with chemotherapy showed a time free of the disease, and higher survival rates than the ones treated only with the complete amputation of the affected member
