Avaliação do tratamento ortodôntico em crianças com má oclusão utilizando os índices PAR e ICON

Malocclusion is the third item in the order of oral health problems, having a multifactorial etiology, interfering with various functions of the stomatognathic system, as well as in appearance and self-esteem of individuals. The demand for orthodontic treatment is great and there, among orthodontists, wide diversity of opinions on the conduct interceptive orthodontics in the primary dentition or early mixed dentition and orthodontic treatment during the early permanent dentition. Thus, this study was conducted in order to evaluate the occlusal and aesthetic impact of orthodontic treatment performed in children with malocclusion in the discipline of Preventive Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry of Araçatuba - UNESP, where he used the PAR and ICON indexes for a more reliable evaluation. Models and final initial studies of 33 patients were studied, where 25 of them had initially malocclusion and received preventive and interceptive treatment in deciduous and/or mixed dentition, while the remaining 8 were followed. The results showed that there was little improvement of intragroup PAR and ICON indices when compared to the beginning and end of the study period, however, the analysis by ANOVA showed no statistically significant differences at the end of this time interval. Intergroup conducted a descriptive analysis showed that the control group showed greater improvement when compared to the treated group, where this small occlusal improvement occurred during the reporting period thus seems to have coincided with a period of more rapid development of the dentition that result with a permanent change of orthodontic treatment.
