Efeito da orientação sobre o controle parasitológico dos equídeos de tração do município de Botucatu/SP

Prevention of parasitic diseases is a highlighted focus on education. Currently the project "Animal Health for urban use draft animals: guidance, education and care" performs guidance for 19 owners of draft animals that depend wholly or partly of 44 horses to obtain income. In order to guide these owners about the deworming importance in their animal healthiness maintaining. They were visited in 3 steps. Step 1: gathering information on the protocols they use for worming, feces collection for fecal examination, worming (ivermectin 1% associated with praziquantel 15%) and estimated weighing the animals; Step 2: 21 days after the first, administration of the second dose (1% ivermectin associated Praziquantel 15%); Step 3: animal weighing, delivery of test results and guidance on deworming protocols. It was found that the animals were intensely parasitized and after deworming there was an effective decrease of worms (mean pre-worming 1530; average after worming 120) and weight gain (before: 317; after: 335). There was also a positive effect on the course of these owners, who identified the importance of worming control and adopted the deworming protocols as a priority in managing the health of their animals.
