The comunnication between the productive sector and the university is fundamental in science, therefore the aim of this study was trace the profile of subscribers at the IX Encontro da Cadeia Produtiva da Cachaça and the X Concurso de Qualidade da Cachaça, conducted by Centro de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento da Qualidade da Cachaça, FCFar/UNESP, in 2014. From 27 participating producers, 89% were residents of SP and MG states. Of 83 participating samples, 19 were “no-aged”, 24 in “rested” category and 40 “aged”. In the “no-aged” category, 63% had registration from MAPA, wherein 84% were coming from MG and SP states. Most of the “rested cachaça” had registration from MAPA and peanut and “jequitibá” were the two most used woods in the storage process. On the “aged” category, most of the participating samples were from SP state and had no registration from MAPA and the most used wood was European oak. This scenario indicates that the tax burden on “aged” cachaça may be leading to an irregular situation. Thus, we understand that the events organized by Centro de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento da Qualidade da Cachaça are important means of communication between the productive sector and the university, because they allow not only to characterization of the productive sector as well to recognize the irregularities are still a problem and awareness measures should be taken.
