Kinship terms are words existing in a given language of a given culture and which serve to situate an individual in his social relations comparatively to others, since each subject will occupy a position and function allowed by that same position in such relations, that is, in the Structures of kinship (LÉVI-STRAUSS, 1976; GHASARIAN, 1996). Considering the social and cultural importance of these structures and the need to investigate the rich linguistic and cognitive patrimony that are the indigenous languages of Brazil, it was considered a database that included only terms of kinship of some of these languages. Thus, 20 dictionaries from 20 different languages were chosen and their macrostructures were scanned and nudged so that the kinship terms therein were transcribed into Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. There were collected some 2000 terms, both in the sense IL>BP, and in the sense BP> IL.
