Resumo: | INTRODUCTION: The prevalence of overweight and obesity are risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease. OBJECTIVE: To examine the association between excess weight and high blood pressure and high resting heart rate of adolescent 10-17 years. METHODS: There were 1011 adolescents between 10 and 17 years old duly enrolled in local schools, and evaluations of the resting heart rate, blood pressure, anthropometry and application of a questionnaire. In the statistical analysis, data were submitted to normality test of Kolmogorov-Sminorv. Subsequently they were expressed as mean and standard deviation. The association between high resting heart rate and the independent categorical variables were analyzed by Chi-square test. The magnitude of these associations was determined by Binary Logistic Regression. In all analyzes, the statistical significance of 5% is assumed. RESULTS: The prevalence of overweight found in Presidente Prudente schools was 27.7%, adolescents overweight has 2 times (OR = 2.67) more likely to have high blood pressure values, and 35% ( OR = 1.35) elevated heart rate at rest to have higher values when matched to their peers with normal weight. CONCLUSION: it concluded that being overweight significantly increases the heart rate and blood pressure values when compared to their normal-weight counterparts, even in young people. |

CONCLUSION: it concluded that being overweight significantly increases the heart rate and blood pressure values when compared to their normal-weight counterparts, even in young people.INTRODUÇÃO: A prevalência de sobrepeso e obesidade são fatores de risco para o desenvolvimento de doenças cardiovasculares.
