This thesis focuses on the improvement of the tapping process performed on the rolling cylinders, made of steel and cast iron, through the analysis of the current process, developed in a steelworks company plant, studies and tests of new tap type tools. Due to the wide variety of chemical compositions and mechanical properties of the metal cylinders produced by the factory, it was decided to define three groups of alloys for the cylinders in order to facilitate the study and simplification of the proposed solutions for the production line. Several supplier companies were contacted and some tools were made available for testing. Being the production twenty-four hours a day, the tests took place in the production cylinders. Analyzes and comparisons of the results were made resulting in the selection of a threading tool for each group of alloys. All of the new taps had better parameters, lifetime and preparation than the previous ones
