The anterior crossbite is a malocclusion characterized by a negative overjet in the region of incisors and canines, involving one or more teeth. Data from the literature report a prevalence 2,1 - 11,9 %, varying according to age group, which makes this malocclusion an important problem for the recognition of the general dentist. The etiologic factors for this malocclusion is the displacement of the permanent tooth due to trauma to the deciduous tooth predecessor, the presence of supernumerary teeth, prolonged retention of deciduous teeth, the decrease of the arc due to caries, the presence of deleterious habits and influence gene in Class III cases. The anterior crossbite may be of skeletal origin, dentoalveolar and functional. The facial profile, the molar ralationship, the canine relationship, the inclination of the upper and lower incisors and overjet are important clinical features to identify the aetiology of this malocclusion. Thus the objective of this study is to present through a literature review, the important morphological characteristics to establish the differential diagnosis of anterior crossbite
