Cosmetic dentistry has become very important nowadays because values and restores the harmony of beauty a smile that society it seeks. With that professionals have sought improvements and techniques in aesthetic restorations in order to improve the clinical work and bring better results for the patient. Patients increasingly require dental restorations that have a natural look and play a normal function for this, it is necessary the use of the principles of optical illusion to reach the desired aesthetic results. Several basic principles of illusion can be specifically applied in dentistry. These principles are used to distinguish form, light, shadow and line. The purpose of creating an optical illusion has the ability to make a tooth looks thinner and wider, smaller or larger, and thus can solve difficult clinical problem. The aim of this study was to see that the principles of optical illusion in restorative treatments it is essential to achieve excellent esthetics in anterior teeth in order to disguise imperfections
