Proposta de protocolo admissional à equipe de enfermagem sobre o uso de medidas de precaução de contato

Developing strategies for infection control in the healthcare setting is extremely important and the lack of standard precautions and isolation precautions (droplets, aerosols, and contact) favors the dissemination of multidrug-resistant microorganisms. Contact precautions aim at preventing the spread of microorganism through direct or indirect contact and must always be associated with standard precautions. Thus, this research aims at developing an admittance protocol to the nursing staff to increase the use of contact precautions. This study includes 106 undergraduate students of Nursing undergraduate course from 03 (three) universities located in the State of São Paulo: 02 (two) of them are private universities and 01 (one) is public. The results were compared with previously published articles on the subject. The following bibliographic databases were considered: Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Latin American and Caribbean Health Science Literature Database (LILACS), and Cochrane Library, in Portuguese and English; the study includes publications from 1999 to 2012. According to the division of right and wrong, the answers were considered appropriate, partially appropriate, and inappropriate. Most (86.25%) of the respondents were women in the age group of 20-29 years. Regarding the definition of contact precautions and diseases which require the use of preventive measures, most of the students answered partially appropriate (93.67% and 44.87%, respectively). In respect to the measures to be used during the care provided to patients on contact precautions, most students answered appropriately (91.03%). With regard to the difficulties in using such measures, students answered discomfort, lack of material or personnel, and time.
