Resumo: The aim of this study was to evaluate, retrospectively, by periapical radiographs, bone loss in single implants installed in the posterior maxilla or mandible. 25 patients who underwent to surgery for the installation of single implants in the posterior maxilla or mandible in the period from 2000 to 2010, in the course of Implantology the Continuing Education Center (NEC), were radiografically evaluated. The assessment was performed by means of digital radiographic images for each patient, and analyzed by Dental Master program with a calibrated measuring tool in mm unit. All patients examined had their prosthetic function without symptoms and presence of attached gingiva around the implants. Bone loss ranged from 0 to 6.8mm, with a mean of 1,52mm of bone loss in the maxilla and the mandible 2,22mm. As the result, it can be concluded that bone loss was greater for mandible than for the maxilla, and with respect to the diameter of the implant, we could observe that the implant 3.75 mm showed the lowest bone loss

Foram avaliados radiograficamente 25 pacientes que se submeteram à cirurgia para a instalação de implantes unitários, na região posterior de maxila ou mandíbula no período entre 2.000 a 2.010, no curso de Implantodontia do Núcleo de Educação Continuada (NEC). A avaliação foi realizada por meio de imagens radiográficas digitais de cada paciente, e analisadas pelo programa Dental Master com sua ferramenta de medição calibrada na unidade de milímetros. Todos os pacientes examinados tinham suas próteses em função, sem sintomatologia e com presença de gengiva inserida ao redor dos implantes. As perdas ósseas variaram de 0 a 6,8mm, com média de 1,52mm de perda óssea para maxila e 2,22mm na mandíbula.
