Aparelhos intraorais para tratamento da Síndrome da Apneia e Hiponeia Obstrutiva do Sono (SAHOS): considerações clínicas dos aparelhos encontrados na literatura brasileira

Resumo: The advancement of sleep medicine has made arrangements for treatment of SAHOS, became increasingly popular. The subject be in the media of various means of communication, it is important to the surgeon dentist be able to recognize the main characteristics of the syndrome, such as etiology, symptomatology, and treatment modalities. The systemic consequences of the syndrome over the years, concerns the interaction that can occur with many diseases. The oral appliances are a treatment option for high acceptability by the patient, and the low cost helps make it increasingly feasible. However due to the amount of models found in the literature, it is important that the selected model satisfies the requirements for its effectiveness, is that the professional pass to master its mechanics, not only for itself but also for its maintenance. The purpose of this paper was to discuss through brazilian literature review, the main characteristics of various oral appliances for treatment of SAHOS and serve as a guide for the dental surgeon determine the best model that fits in each clinical case he might have to intervene. It was concluded that while the yet AiOs present results lower than the effectiveness of CPAP, are usually better accepted by patients because they are smaller and more aesthetically acceptable. Therefore, AIOs, especially mandibular advancement, are alternative treatment for mild and moderate OSAHS, with a significant improvement in the condition of the patient

Pelo assunto estar na mídia dos diversos meio de comunicação, é importante o cirurgião dentista estar apto a reconhecer as principais características da síndrome, como etiologia, sintomatologia e modalidades de tratamento. As consequências sistêmicas da síndrome com o passar dos anos, preocupa pela interação que pode ocorrer com várias patologias. Os aparelhos intraorais são uma opção de tratamento de grande aceitabilidade por parte do paciente, e o baixo custo ajuda a torna-lo cada vez mais viável. No entanto devido à quantidade de modelos que encontramos na literatura, é importante que o modelo selecionado preencha os requisitos necessários para sua efetividade, é que o profissional passe a dominar sua mecânica, não somente para sua instalação como também para sua manutenção. O intuito desse trabalho foi discutir através de levantamento da literatura brasileira, as características principais de vários aparelhos intraorais para tratamento da SAHOS e servir de guia para o cirurgião dentista definir qual o melhor modelo que se enquadra em cada caso clínico que ele possa ter que intervir. Concluiu-se que apesar dos AIOs ainda apresentarem resultados de eficácia inferiores aos do CPAP, costumam ser melhor aceitos pelos pacientes, por serem menores e esteticamente mais aceitáveis.
