Resumo: To study plant growth and yield of cauliflower, two field trials were carried out: the first spring-summer (Oct. 07, 2006 to Jan. 28, 2007) and the second autumn-winter (Apr. 04, 2007 to Jul. 09, 2007). The experimental design was randomized complete blocks in 4 x 4 factorial design with three replications. The following factors: line spacing (0.6, 0.8, 1.0 and 1.2 m) and plant spacing (0.4, 0.5, 0.6 and 0.7 m). The used cultivar was cv. Verona 284. The characteristics, number of leaves by plant, diameter of stem, diameter of inflorescence, inflorescence mass and yield were evaluated. With the reduction in spacing, were observed lower numbers of leaves, stem diameter, diameter and mass of the inflorescence, but there was an increase in yield. The maximum yield (23 t ha(-1)) was obtained with 0.6 x 0.4 m, ie, in higher plant population (41,667, plants ha(-1)).

The maximum yield (23 t ha(-1)) was obtained with 0.6 x 0.4 m, ie, in higher plant population (41,667, plants ha(-1)).Com o objetivo de avaliar diferentes densidades populacionais e épocas de plantio na produtividade da couve-flor foram realizados dois experimentos a campo, o primeiro na primavera-verão (07/10/2006 a 28/01/2007) e o segundo no outono-inverno (04/04/2007 a 09/07/2007). O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados completos, em esquema fatorial 4 x 4, com três repetições. Foram avaliados os fatores: espaçamento entre linhas (0,6; 0,8; 1,0 e 1,2 m) e espaçamento entre plantas (0,4; 0,5; 0,6 e 0,7 m). A cultivar utilizada foi a cv. Verona 284. Foram avaliadas as características, número de folhas por planta, diâmetro do caule, diâmetro da inflorescência, massa da inflorescência e produtividade. Com a redução nos espaçamentos foram verificados menores números de folhas, diâmetro do caule, diâmetro e massa da inflorescência, porém houve incremento na produtividade. A produtividade máxima (23 t ha-1) foi obtida com 0,6 x 0,4 m, ou seja, na maior população de plantas (41.667 plantas ha-1).
