Resumo: The advent of implant dentistry and osseointegration process has been a major therapeutic advances of modern dentistry, especially in respect of oral rehabilitation by means of implant prostheses. The clinical success and longevity of endosseous dental implant as a load-bearing abutment are largely controlled by the mechanical environment in which they operate. Complications (prosthetic and / or supporting bone) reported in follow-up studies highlight the occlusion as a factor for the success or failure of the implant. Almost no controlled clinical study that compares the various theories occlusal implant, was published. Based on these data, the objective of this study was to review current concepts in the literature regarding the fundamentals of occlusion applied to implant dentistry, as well as discuss the biomechanics involved, providing clinical guidelines useful in formulating treatment protocols for different types of prostheses implant, seeking the longevity of them

O sucesso clínico e a longevidade do implante dentário endósseo como suporte de carga de um abutment são, em grande parte, controlados pelo ambiente mecânico no qual funcionam. As complicações (protéticas e/ou de suporte ósseo) relatadas nos estudos de acompanhamento destacam a oclusão como um fator determinante para o sucesso ou a falha do implante. Quase nenhum estudo clínico controlado, que compare as várias teorias oclusais do implante, foi publicado.
