Resumo: The pine wood market, the main raw material for the production of Kraft paper, presents a trend of imbalance, between supply and demand, for the coming years in Brazil. There is a strong increase of the demand of this input, explained by internal and external factors, added to the fact that the production of pine logs has been finding difficulties of expansion. One of the possible measures to circumvent this market trend is the use of recycled material for the production of Kraft paper. The use of recycled material in the production of Kraft paper presents several environmental benefits, however, its use can directly influence the quality of the product. In order to investigate the influence of the use of recycled fibers on the quality of Kraft paper, were produced samples of Kraft paper with different percentages of virgin fiber and recycled fiber, applying in these samples the physical tests RCT, Mullen and air permeability. The virgin fiber pulps and the recycled fiber pulps, as well as the physical tests, were carried out in a cellulose and paper industry in the state of São Paulo. With the accomplishment of this study, it concluded that the quality of the paper is affected as we increase the percentage of fiber recycled in the composition of the samples. Data analysis showed that there is a strong positive correlation between the virgin fiber percentage in the sample composition with its burst strength and compressive strength. The air permeability shows a strong negative correlation with the percentage of virgin fiber in the composition of the samples

Há um forte aumento da demanda deste insumo, explicado por fatores internos e externos, somado ao fato de que os projetos florestais para produção de toras de pinus vêm encontrando dificuldades de expansão. Uma das possíveis medidas para contornar essa tendência de mercado é a utilização de material reciclado para a produção do papel Kraft. A utilização de material reciclado na produção de papel Kraft apresenta diversos benefícios de cunho ambiental. Entretanto, sua utilização pode influenciar diretamente na qualidade do produto. Com o objetivo de investigar a influência da utilização de fibras recicladas na qualidade do papel Kraft, foram produzidas amostras de papel Kraft com diferentes porcentagens de fibra virgem e fibra reciclada. Para isso, foram aplicados nestas amostras, os testes mecânicos RCT e de estouro e o teste físico de permeância do ar. As polpas de fibra virgem e as polpas de fibra reciclada, tal como a realização dos testes físicos, foram realizados em uma indústria de papel e celulose do interior do estado de São Paulo. Com a realização deste estudo, pode-se concluir que a qualidade do papel é afetada negativamente conforme aumentamos a porcentagem de fibra reciclada na composição das amostras. A análise dos dados mostrou que há uma correlação forte positiva entre o percentual de fibra virgem na composição das amostras com sua resistência ao arrebentamento e a resistência à compressão.
