Do lúdico ao conhecimento: ensino de doenças parasitárias e infecciosas por meio de jogo didático para alunos do ensino fundamental

The Supervised Curricular Training III is a part of the Biological Sciences’s degree program, which aims to complement the education of students. Infectious and parasitic diseases are common among school age children, being some of the main causes of infant mortality as a result of children’s immature immune system and, especially, because of poor sanitary conditions and lack of basic sanitation services. In view of this, approaching these questions inside the classroom provides students with better resources to elaborate a critical view of the diseases that permeate their surroundings at the same time as they develop a political consciousness of constitutional rights. For that reason, this work treats those questions with middle school students from Escola Estadual Maria de Lourdes Murad de Camargo, located in the municipality of São José do Rio Preto, in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the classes were delivered remotely with the use of didactic videos and card games related to the diseases in question. The video lessons were presented as a minicourse, which lasted for three 45-minute classes, ending with the card game. In order to compare the data and observe whether there was progress in their understanding of the topics, the students filled out a form before and after the video lessons and card games. By analyzing the data, it was possible to observe the effect of the didactic videos and card games in the students’ understanding of the addressed diseases, heightening the need for a reform in the Currículo Paulista and Base Nacional Comum Curricular, in hopes of a better approach of said topics. At last, the proposed teaching material seems to help addressing not only these diseases in a playful way, but also the students’ view of their rights, simplifying their comprehension and assimilation.
