This work analyze the possibility of creating a protected area in the region of Itapeva, located in the southwest of São Paulo State, which has relevant historical and natural aspects. Furnas Formation and the Itaiacoca Group are present, as well as relevant forest redoubts. The area also presence archaeological sites. Mayors and scholars have highlighted intentions for a better exploitation of the area, as well as their protection and in recent years with the growth of ecotourism, those intentions have hit harder. Thus, this work addresses recommendations for the creation of protect areas emphasizing the Protection Units, identifying in an integrated manner, the main attributes that motivate the protection of the site. Thus, literature research has been made about Protection Units on the studied region about the culture, physical area, map of land use, hydrological map, interviews and field work, these procedures that supported the discussion on the creation of unit conservation in the region. We conclude that there are a need to create a protected area, respecting the diversity of ecosystems, biological importance, a large number of springs and archeological sites of the region of whole
